I know that a lot of you out there reading this can appreciate a great burger, for me Byron Burgers is my favourite place to go when I'm craving a juicy cheeseburger. I was so happy when I heard their cookbook was being released and wanted to have a go myself. Now let me tell you how you can make your own!
Makes 4 burgers
You will need:
4 x 180g hamburgers
4 buns, halved
4 leaves of lettuce
1/2 beef tomato
1 small red onion peeled and cut into 2mm thick rings
4 slices of cheese
Now before we begin, I just want to point out that I didn't have an electric or hand mincer so I had to buy mince to then form into patties. So for the purpose of this recipe I'll tell you how I made them without.
001: Divide the mince into 180g portions and roll into a ball.
002: Then press down and try to aim for 12cm wide and 1.5cm thick.
003: Store in the fridge for at least an hour before cooking. (separate by squares of greaseproof paper and wrap)
Lets get started:
001: Preheat grill to high
002: Cook the hamburgers to your liking.
003: Meanwhile, toast or grill the cut sides of the buns. (For these I'd recommend an 'enriched' dough with butter and egg in the recipe).
004: Spread the mayo evenly over the top halves of the buns.
005: Place one lettuce leaf on top of the mayo, then add slice of tomato.
006: Once the hamburgers are cooked, transfer them to a small oven tray lined with foil. Top each hamburger with a slice of cheese. Place under the hot grill, watch carefully and remove the tray from under the grill as soon as the cheese has melted (this process only takes literally 15 seconds so keep your eyes peeled!).
007: Place hamburgers onto the bottom halves of the buns and bring the two halves together.
So ok mine don't look as tasty as the ones photographed in the book (come on, when do they ever) but trust me these were so scrumptious! Serve them with fries or whatever you fancy and maybe top it off with a milkshake; you can get the recipe for those too in the cookbook ;) Along with desserts and drinks.
